Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading building solutions company, has extended its commitment to community health by organizing free medical outreaches across its host communities to commemorate the 2025 World Malaria Day. The initiative, themed “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite”, covered communities in Lagos, Ewekoro, Sagamu, Mfamosing, and Ashaka.

The large-scale outreach included free malaria testing, distribution of insecticide-treated nets, and free medication, aiming to raise awareness and provide direct support in the fight against one of Nigeria’s most persistent public health challenges.

In Lagos, the event was held in partnership with Leadway Health at the Oregun Flagship Primary Health Care Centre, Ikeja. Dr. Chimaobi Okoronkwo, Occupational Health Coordinator at Lafarge Africa, demonstrated the correct use of mosquito nets, emphasizing their role as life-saving tools. “Nets are not for decoration—they must be used consistently, especially at night,” he said.

Highlighting the company’s sustainability goals, Gabriel Pollyn, Head of Sustainability and Sponsorships, reiterated Lafarge Africa’s commitment to public health. “Preventing malaria is not just a medical priority, it’s a societal one. It affects our children, our economy, and our future,” Pollyn noted.

Community Health Officer at the Oregun centre, Mrs. A.O. Olaniyan, also addressed attendees, urging stakeholders and individuals to take proactive measures against malaria by eliminating stagnant water and avoiding self-medication. “Everyone has a role to play in prevention,” she said.

The outreach is part of Lafarge Africa’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, which places community health as a core pillar of its operations. Through initiatives like this, the company continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the wellbeing of its host communities across Nigeria.
