The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to step in quickly to stop the cholera outbreak in Zongo, Badagry West LCDA, Lagos State.

The call came after Hon. Sesi Whingan moved a motion during Wednesday’s plenary. Lawmakers also held a minute of silence for those who died.

Whingan warned that many lives are at risk due to dirty water, poor sanitation, and a weak healthcare system. He said things got worse after the Nigerian Air Force Mother and Child Care Hospital was relocated. A four-year power outage has also shut down water systems and vaccine storage.

The House asked the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC to send health workers, launch awareness campaigns, and monitor the spread.

They also called on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and NEMA to provide clean water, sanitation tools, and medical supplies.

Lawmakers directed the Ministry of Power and the Rural Electrification Agency to restore electricity to the area.

A joint committee will visit the community to check on the outbreak, power supply, and hospital closure. They must report back in three weeks.

The House praised health workers and volunteers for their brave efforts to fight the disease.
