The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has responded to a resurfaced video making the rounds on social media, which shows a violent confrontation involving some of its personnel. According to the agency, the incident took place over five years ago—on February 17, 2019—and not recently, contrary to impressions being circulated online.

The confrontation, which occurred near the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State, was previously addressed by the agency. At the time, Customs initiated an internal investigation in line with its operational guidelines, leading to a public briefing and the setup of a disciplinary panel. Following the probe, officers found guilty of wrongdoing were dismissed.

The NCS emphasized that it enforces strict adherence to its operational code and will not tolerate any form of indiscipline among its ranks. While the video has regained public attention, the agency insists that the matter was thoroughly dealt with and justice administered under existing institutional frameworks.

In its statement, the Service acknowledged public concern over the reappearance of the footage but urged Nigerians to seek factual information through official channels rather than amplifying outdated content. The agency also expressed gratitude for ongoing public engagement, pledging continued service rooted in ethical standards and accountability.

Under the stewardship of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the NCS highlighted its efforts to reinforce professionalism, including the implementation of reforms to enhance internal accountability and staff training. These initiatives, the agency says, are part of its commitment to responsible governance and improved public trust.
