The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two officers and the abduction of two workers at a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The attack occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gunmen stormed the facility and opened fire.

Two policemen, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Haruna Watsai, and Inspector Tukur Ogah, were shot dead. Both were attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja.

The attackers also seized the officers’ rifles before fleeing.

In a statement on Thursday, police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of CP Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident.

She said a Chinese national, Mr. Sam Xie Wie, and a Nigerian worker, Mr. David Adenaiye from Kogi State, were kidnapped during the attack.

The police have launched a full investigation and rescue operation. “Tactical and intelligence efforts are ongoing to locate the victims and arrest the culprits,” the statement said.

CP Ojo condemned the attack. He promised improved security at mining sites and urged the public to stay calm and cooperative.

Residents were also asked to report any suspicious activity. “Timely, credible information is critical to ongoing efforts,” the police added.

The command is working with other security agencies and local stakeholders to prevent future attacks.
