Benue State has moved closer to addressing the long-standing traffic congestion in Makurdi as Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia personally supervised the commencement of the geotechnical survey at Wurukum Roundabout. This marks the crucial first phase of the long-anticipated Wurukum Flyover project.
A joint team from the Federal Ministry of Works and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has begun preliminary groundwork, following the project’s inclusion in the Makurdi-Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu dualization road initiative—an effort championed by Governor Alia.
Speaking at the site, Governor Alia emphasized the transformative impact of the flyover, stating, “Beyond easing traffic, this project will stimulate economic activities and accelerate development in Makurdi.”
He urged residents to remain patient with temporary traffic diversions, assuring them that the short-term inconveniences would lead to long-term infrastructure improvements.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi, Governor Alia highlighted their instrumental role in making the project a reality.
“This milestone signifies a new chapter for Benue State, and I deeply appreciate all stakeholders committed to its success,” he added.
