The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has opened an investigation into Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound train between Kubwa and Asham stations, around KM 49.
The incident, which occurred at about 11:09 a.m., left six passengers injured, though no fatalities were recorded, according to a statement by NSIB spokesperson Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji.
A “go-team” of investigators has been dispatched to the site to gather evidence, liaise with stakeholders, and determine the cause of the derailment.
NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy to those affected and reassured the public of the Bureau’s commitment to safety.
“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation,” he said.
The Bureau added that the probe will look into both direct and underlying causes of the accident, with recommendations to prevent future occurrences. It also pledged support to passengers impacted by the incident.
