“Let every public official know… that history will judge them based on their fidelity to the public trust.” – John F. Kennedy
In the intricate embroidery of Nigerian politics, where allegiances often shift like desert sands, the adage “there is no morality in politics” frequently finds validation. Yet, amidst this fluid landscape, certain individuals stand as beacons of integrity and steadfastness. One such figure is Rt. Honourable Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas, a man whose political journey is as compelling as it is instructive.
The political landscape of Ganye, Jada, Toungo and Mayo-Belwa constituency is at a crossroads as 2027 approaches. Amid rising ambitions, betrayals, and shifting alliances, one name stands tall—Rt. Honourable Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas. A man of integrity, competence, and vision, Namdas has consistently proven that leadership is about service, not self-interest. His roles as a two-term lawmaker, and currently the Federal Commissioner for the North-East in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and his esteemed traditional title as the Gangwi of Ganye further solidify his reputation as a leader who bridges politics, culture, and community development.
Born on January 1, 1969, in Ganye Local Council Area of Adamawa State, Namdas’s early life was shaped by the tumultuous period of the Nigerian civil war. This backdrop instilled in him a profound sense of duty and a commitment to humanitarianism. Pursuing higher education, he earned a B.Sc in Sociology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Nigeria Institute of Journalism in 1998. His academic pursuits laid a solid foundation for a career that seamlessly blended journalism and politics.
Namdas’s professional journey commenced in the media industry, where he served as a State Correspondent for the Nigerian Daily Times. His journalistic acumen and dedication led to his appointment as Chief Press Secretary to Governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa State, a role he held from 1999 to 2007. This position not only honed his skills in public communication but also provided him with an intimate understanding of governance and public administration.
Transitioning into partisan politics, Namdas became the Director General of the Atiku Support Group, a significant political campaign platform founded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. His leadership and strategic insight were instrumental in mobilizing support and fostering political engagement.
In 2015, Namdas was elected to the Nigerian Federal House of Representatives, representing the Jada/Ganye/Mayo Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency of Adamawa State. His tenure was marked by proactive legislative initiatives and a commitment to transparency. As the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, he played a pivotal role in rebranding the image of the National Assembly, striving to bridge the gap between the legislature and the public.
Re-elected in 2019, Namdas continued to demonstrate exemplary leadership. He declared his candidacy for the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 9th Assembly, running a campaign centered on rebranding the National Assembly’s image and empowering the youth. Despite garnering significant support, he gracefully withdrew from the race in deference to his party’s zoning arrangements, exemplifying his respect for party discipline and unity.
Namdas’s tenure in the House of Representatives was distinguished by a series of empowerment initiatives aimed at uplifting his constituents. Recognizing the agrarian nature of Adamawa State, he distributed fertilizers and farming implements to local farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity and food security. Additionally, he facilitated the recruitment of numerous constituents into the Armed Forces and other federal establishments, providing employment opportunities and fostering national integration.
His commitment to human capital development was further evidenced by the distribution of essential tools and equipment. Items such as cars, motorbikes, tricycles, grinding machines, sewing machines, generators, barbing kits, and hair dryers were provided to empower individuals economically. These initiatives not only improved the livelihoods of beneficiaries but also stimulated local economies.
In recognition of his efforts, the APC National Youth Advocates lauded Namdas as “a beacon of hope, a legislator per excellence, a role model to the Nigerian youths, a rare bred politician and intellectual of high repute, and a redoubtable administrator.” Such accolades underscore the positive impact of his empowerment projects and his dedication to youth development.
As the 2027 elections approach, Namdas has set his sights on the Senate, aiming to represent his constituency with the same vigor and integrity that have characterized his political career. However, reports indicate that some close associates and allies are endorsing another candidate, a move perceived by many as a betrayal. This development brings to mind the cautionary proverb about “sheep in wolves’ clothing,” highlighting the complexities and intrigues inherent in political alliances.
Despite these challenges, Namdas remains undeterred. His track record speaks volumes about his capabilities and commitment. As he aptly stated, “I am the son of the soil; I am the son of the downtrodden. I started from scratch to the top. I have gone through the leadership processes. I haven’t said I was born at the top; rather, I started from the ground, and God is lifting me up, so I know all the challenges the poor man is facing in Adamawa; I have seen them all.”
In the realm of politics, credibility is an invaluable currency. Namdas’s unwavering loyalty to his party, even in the face of personal setbacks, exemplifies his commitment to collective progress over individual ambition. His decision not to return to the House of Representatives in 2023, allowing others the opportunity to serve, further underscores his selflessness and dedication to democratic principles.
Moreover, his academic pursuits, including an M.A. in Criminology and Security Studies and Ph.D. studies in Strategic and Security Studies, equip him with a nuanced understanding of security challenges—a critical asset for legislative responsibilities at the national level.
As 2027 approaches, the choice before the people of Ganye, Jada, Toungo and Mayo-Belwa constituency is a consequential one. Amid political intrigue and the machinations of betrayal, Rt. Honourable Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas stands as a steadfast figure, embodying the virtues of service, loyalty, and vision. His track record of empowerment, his dedication to his constituents, and his unwavering commitment to the progress of Adamawa State speak volumes about his suitability for the Senate.
Namdas is more than a politician; he is a statesman—a leader who transcends partisan interests to prioritize the well-being of his people. His initiatives in education, agriculture, security, and economic empowerment have transformed countless lives, and his legislative acumen has brought national recognition to his constituency. Moreover, his willingness to step aside when necessary, in the spirit of inclusivity, reflects his selflessness and respect for democratic principles.
The people of Ganye, Jada, Toungo and Mayo-Belwa deserve a leader who not only understands their struggles but also possesses the experience, character, and vision to address them. Namdas has proven time and again that he is that leader. His humility, tenacity, and capacity to foster unity and progress make him the most credible candidate for the Senate in 2027.
In the end, the strength of a leader lies not in the applause of the moment but in the enduring impact of their service. For Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas, that impact is unmistakable. As the electorate prepares to cast their votes, they must remember not the fleeting promises of political opportunists but the lasting legacy of a man who has always put the people first. The cap fits Namdas because he has earned it—through hard work, sacrifice, and an unyielding commitment to the greater good.
In the words of the late American President John F. Kennedy, “Let every public official know… that history will judge them based on their fidelity to the public trust.” By all accounts, Namdas has fulfilled this trust with distinction, and the people of his constituency owe it to themselves to ensure that such leadership continues for the benefit of all.
