In a significant boost to Nigeria’s automotive industry, Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (DPAN) has achieved an annual production capacity of 44,000 vehicles at its state-of-the-art assembly plant in Kaduna. This milestone is the result of a strategic partnership between Dangote Group, Stellantis (Peugeot’s parent company), and other investors, aiming to revitalize local vehicle manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
The tech-driven facility, capable of assembling up to 120 vehicles daily, produces popular Peugeot models including the Landtrek pickup, 3008, 5008, and the 508 GT. The integration of advanced technology has streamlined assembly processes, enhancing efficiency and positioning DPAN as a key player in Nigeria’s journey toward industrial self-sufficiency.
At the recent 46th Kaduna International Trade Fair, Fatima Wali Abdurrahman, Senior Advisor to the President of Dangote Group, highlighted the company’s commitment to digitization across its operations. She noted that the adoption of smart and automated systems has revolutionized sectors such as cement manufacturing, with tasks that once took days now completed in minutes. This technological integration extends to DPAN, underscoring the conglomerate’s dedication to innovation and efficiency.
DPAN’s efforts are further complemented by initiatives to expand its sales and after-sales network across Nigeria. According to Umar Isa-Kaita, DPAN’s Chief Commercial Officer, the company is in discussions to accredit dealerships nationwide, enhancing the visibility and availability of Peugeot vehicles while ensuring robust customer support.
This development is poised to rejuvenate Nigeria’s automotive sector, offering high-quality, locally assembled vehicles to meet the growing demand. By fostering local manufacturing, DPAN not only contributes to economic growth but also aligns with national objectives of industrialization and job creation.
The Federal Government has lauded Dangote Group’s investments, recognizing their critical role in driving economic development. Acting Permanent Secretary Dr. Dafang Sale emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Dangote Group’s commitment to innovation and industrialization is critical to Nigeria’s economic growth.”
As DPAN continues to expand its operations and model lineup, it stands as a testament to the potential of strategic partnerships and technological advancement in transforming Nigeria’s industrial landscape.
