Nollywood actor-turned-politician and lawyer, Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo, has officially resigned from the Labour Party (@NgLabour), citing internal conflicts within the party’s leadership. His resignation takes effect on February 25, 2025, exactly two years after the 2023 presidential election.
Okonkwo, who previously served as the spokesperson for the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, announced his decision in a public statement.
“This resignation takes effect from 25 Feb. 2025, which marks the second anniversary of the presidential election of 2023, after which I will be at liberty to join other well-meaning and like-minded Nigerians in charting a great future of good governance for this great country blessed by God,” he stated.
He emphasized that his participation in politics has always been driven by the pursuit of good governance, an objective he no longer believes can be achieved under the Labour Party’s current structure.
“My entrance to politics is for good governance. I will continue to work for it to ensure that Nigeria becomes a great country of incorruptible men. This aim can no longer be realized within the Labour Party as presently constituted,” Okonkwo added.
His departure marks another high-profile exit from the Labour Party, which has faced increasing internal struggles since the 2023 elections. It remains to be seen which political platform Okonkwo will align with next, as he commits to continuing his advocacy for national development and integrity in governance.
