The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Lawmakers unanimously endorsed Doro’s nomination following his pledge to ensure fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in Nigeria’s humanitarian interventions.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” Doro told senators before he was asked to take a bow and leave.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier forwarded Doro’s name to the Senate for confirmation in line with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution.

Doro’s appointment follows the elevation of his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who now serves as National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Doro as a seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience spanning pharmacy, healthcare management, and strategic leadership in Nigeria and the UK.

Born in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, on January 23, 1969, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

He is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience across urgent care and hospital settings.

With his confirmation, Doro is expected to be sworn in at the next meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
