The Federal Government says its Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), alongside other energy sector reforms, is designed to improve Nigeria’s entire economic ecosystem.

The disclosure was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, at the 8th Value Chain Energy Magazine Annual Lecture in Abuja on Tuesday. The event’s theme was “Growth in the Energy Sector: Nexus Between Economic Development, Social Impact, and Public Perception.”

Represented by the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, Idris said the theme reflects President Bola Tinubu’s philosophy of balancing economic reforms, social outcomes, and public trust.

“President Tinubu has been clear that Nigeria’s economic revival depends on a stable, modern, and efficient energy sector,” Idris said. He explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on sustainable growth, industrialization, investment attraction, job creation, and long-term competitiveness.

Idris added that the push for CNG forms part of a broader strategy to provide a sustainable and affordable energy mix, supporting cleaner fuel options and benefiting households, transport, and manufacturing.

He also highlighted the Electricity Act and strengthened state collaboration as tools to attract private investment, expand off-grid solutions, and improve service delivery.

“By enhancing regulatory clarity, local content, and innovation, this administration is reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a top destination for energy investments in Africa. These reforms are bold, sometimes challenging, but essential for national stability and prosperity,” Idris said.
