The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has terminated the 13-kilometre Apo-Karshi Road contract previously awarded to Kakatar Construction Company Ltd. in 2011, citing non-performance. The project has been re-awarded to SCC under an emergency arrangement.
Wike announced the decision on Thursday during an inspection tour of ongoing roads, including the Karu-Customs-CBN Road, Gishiri-Katampe Road, and Apo-Wasa Carriageway. “We cannot continue to play politics with the welfare of the people. That road has been terminated, and SCC has started work,” he said.
The minister also confirmed the Kubwa-Bwari road project has commenced and will serve as an alternative route. At Karu, he assured a shop owner affected by demolition for obstructing a water channel that adequate compensation would be paid, emphasizing public safety over emotions.
Wike expressed satisfaction with residents’ reception at the project sites, noting it reflected approval of the government’s development efforts. He stated that ongoing road projects would be commissioned during President Bola Tinubu’s third-anniversary celebrations.
Looking ahead, Wike said the FCTA would not award new contracts in 2026, choosing instead to complete all ongoing projects before the political year.
