The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has expressed condolences to the National President of the union, Alhassan Yahaya, over the death of six journalists in Gombe State.
The journalists reportedly lost their lives in a fatal auto crash on Monday evening.
The Adamawa NUJ conveyed its sympathy in a condolence message jointly signed by the council’s Chairman, Abdullahi Ibrahim, and Secretary, Kissinger Bukar, and issued on Tuesday in Yola.
According to the report, the accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. as the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony in Kaltungo town, Gombe State.
The Adamawa NUJ also extended its condolences to the management of NTA Gombe, the Gombe State Ministry of Information, as well as the government and people of the state over the tragic incident.
“The loss of these dedicated professionals is a painful blow not only to the journalism profession but also to the nation at large,” the council said.
It noted that the journalists’ commitment, service and contributions to the growth of the media industry would be deeply missed.
The council said it stands in solidarity with the families of the deceased, their colleagues and the entire Gombe State media community during the period of mourning.
The Adamawa NUJ prayed for God to grant eternal rest to the departed souls and give their families and loved ones the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
