Plateau State Government Unveils New Jos Master Plan to Tackle Housing Deficit

The Plateau State Government has announced that the proposed new Jos Master Plan will address the state’s housing deficit, with a particular focus on providing affordable housing for low-income earners.

Mr. Joshua Ubandoma Laven, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, disclosed this on Monday in Jos, the state capital. According to the Commissioner, the initiative is not only aimed at beautifying and reorganizing major cities but also at tackling the rising cost of housing in the state.

“Apart from the fact that the new Jos Master Plan will beautify and reorganize our major cities, Governor Caleb Mutfwang is also worried about the rising cost of house rent in the state, particularly within Jos and its environs,” Laven stated.

To achieve this goal, the government plans to secure funding from development partners such as the World Bank and the United States.

“We shall access funding from development partners like the World Bank and the United States, among others, to achieve this dream. Our vision is to make our cities beautiful, attractive, and homely and ensure that people—who are earning little—still have affordable homes,” he added.

The master plan will initially focus on four metropolitan local government areas: Jos North, Jos South, Bassa, and Jos East, before being expanded to other regions.

This ambitious initiative is expected to bring relief to residents struggling with high rent costs and inadequate housing while fostering urban development and modernization in Plateau State.
