    Abuja, Nigeria – February 3, 2025

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her victory at the 67th Grammy Awards, where she won the Best African Music Performance award in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

In a statement issued by the State House, the President hailed Tems for her unique artistry, which has once again brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage. He emphasized that her win highlights the continued rise of Nigerian musicians, particularly in the Afrobeats genre, which has gained worldwide recognition.

    Afrobeats as a Global Phenomenon

President Tinubu praised the new generation of multi-talented Nigerian artists for their role in making Afrobeats a dominant force in international music, promoting Nigeria’s reputation as a hub of creativity, innovation, and cultural influence.

“From Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, the Nigerian music industry—especially Afrobeats—has become a source of national pride. It fosters identity, self-expression, and unites people across borders,” the President stated.

Commendation for Other Nigerian Grammy Nominees

The President also congratulated other Nigerian artists who received Grammy nominations, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy. He thanked them for showcasing Nigeria’s creative excellence and contributing to the country’s global influence in the music industry.

“You are all inspirations and role models to many young people. The nation remains deeply grateful for your contributions to music, job creation, and tourism promotion. I wish you all continued success in your musical careers,” he added.

Nigeria’s Growing Influence in the Global Music Scene

With Tems’ second Grammy win, Nigerian artists continue to solidify their place on the global stage, earning recognition for their talent and impact. The Nigerian music industry has seen a surge in international collaborations, awards, and recognition, further strengthening its position as a powerhouse of global music and culture.
