Renewed violence has erupted in Adamawa State, with fresh attacks reported in Lafiya and Boshikiri villages in Lamurde and Guyuk Local Government Areas, respectively. The incidents, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the destruction of homes and have once again highlighted the recurring tensions that often flare up during the farming season in these border communities.
In a statement issued Thursday, Adamawa State Police Command described the incidents as acts of “mischief by fire”, confirming that thatched huts were set ablaze by unidentified individuals.
Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje said the homes of Mrs. Ododumga Kenneth in Lafiya and Mr. Nura Haruna in Boshikiri were destroyed during the attacks.
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris ordered a discreet investigation and immediate deployment of officers to the affected areas to prevent further escalation and apprehend those responsible.
“Anyone found instigating violence or engaging in criminal acts will be decisively dealt with,” the CP warned.
The police urged residents to stay calm, cooperate with authorities, and report suspicious activities promptly to aid in swift intervention.
The incidents mark a troubling pattern of seasonal violence in Adamawa’s border communities, raising renewed concerns over rural security and land-related conflicts.
