The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of rain, thunderstorms, and potential flooding across several states.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency forecast storms and moderate rainfall on Monday morning over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina.
It added that more thunderstorms with moderate rain would follow later in the day across the entire northern region. Flash flooding is likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Bauchi during the forecast period.
For central states, NiMet expects light rain on Monday morning in Benue, the FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa. By afternoon, rains may spread to Kwara and Plateau.
In the South, cloudy skies and light rain are expected over Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa. Flood risk is high in Oyo, Ogun, Edo, and Delta.
On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms with rain are likely in Taraba, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, and Zamfara. More rain is expected later across the North.
Central states including the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, and Benue may see intermittent rain throughout Tuesday.
Southern areas are likely to have cloudy weather and light showers. Flooding is possible in Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
By Wednesday, NiMet forecasts morning rain and storms in Taraba and Kaduna. Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, and Adamawa may experience further storms later.
In central Nigeria, Nasarawa, Niger, and the FCT may receive light rain in the morning. Rain may extend into Kwara, Kogi, and Benue by evening.
The South will likely see more light rain and cloud cover throughout Wednesday. Flooding could affect parts of Bayelsa.
NiMet urged residents in high-risk flood areas to remain alert. It advised avoiding travel during heavy rain and securing loose items outdoors. People should unplug electronics and avoid sheltering near tall trees.
Airline operators were also advised to get location-specific weather updates to aid flight planning.
