    Yola, Nigeria
The Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, has taken a significant step towards securing full accreditation for its Leisure and Tourism programme, following the completion of a purpose-built training hotel for students.

A major milestone in the decade-long journey toward accreditation was achieved after the former Rector’s residence on the Polytechnic’s main campus was remodelled into a functional hospitality facility. The establishment, which will serve as a hands-on learning centre, features six standard rooms, two suites, a kitchen, a restaurant, a reception area, and a garden — all designed to meet the standards of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Inspecting the newly completed facility, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Mohammed Dahiru Toungos, was accompanied by the Chairman of Adamawa State Hotels, Mr. Samuel Duci. Both officials expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the potential impact the facility would have on student training.

“This project marks a turning point for the Polytechnic’s Leisure and Tourism programme,” Professor Toungos said. “With this facility, our students can now gain practical experience right here on campus, bringing us closer to meeting NBTE requirements for full accreditation.”

The Leisure and Tourism programme has been in operation for over ten years without formal NBTE accreditation. With this latest development, the institution is now set to welcome the board for final assessment.

In a broader tour of ongoing projects, Professor Toungos also visited the newly completed Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory at the School of Environmental Sciences, Jambutu campus, constructed with support from TETFund. Additionally, he inspected a recently refurbished tractor at the School of Engineering Technology, further underlining the Polytechnic’s commitment to expanding practical training infrastructure across its faculties.
