Huawei Nigeria has restated its commitment to building Nigeria’s digital talent pipeline as it hosted the 2025 Huawei Abuja Job Fair, alongside the 9th Huawei ICT Competition Global Awards and the launch of the 10th edition of the competition.
At the event, Terrens Wu, Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Business Group, emphasized the company’s long-term goal of equipping Nigerian youths with the skills to thrive in the digital economy.
“Over the past nine editions, we have seen how this platform transforms potential into real skill, ambition into achievement, and students into industry-ready professionals,” Wu said, noting that participants will gain exposure to 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and the Internet of Things.
Wu also underlined the importance of creating opportunities for graduates. “The previous Job Fair showed a clear hunger for connection between skilled graduates and the companies driving our digital economy. We are delighted to welcome even more leading partners this year,” he said.
Representing the National Universities Commission (NUC), Mohammed Farouk praised Huawei’s long-standing support for Nigerian universities through infrastructure and digital skills development. “Huawei has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Nigerian university system. The least we can do as government is to further encourage what they are doing,” he said.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Bugaje, urged Huawei to expand its investment in Nigeria. “Nigeria is Africa. Whatever you want to give Africa, please give it to Nigeria,” he said, pointing to the massive turnout of students as proof of the country’s vibrant talent pool.
Huawei’s Senior Public Relations Manager, Dr. Oyin Abiola, said the company’s focus on ICT innovation is evident in its global workforce, with over 55% of its 207,000 employees in research and development. She highlighted initiatives such as the Seeds for the Future program and the Huawei ICT Academy, which now operates in more than 190 Nigerian institutions.
The Abuja event followed a similar job fair in Lagos on August 8 at Yaba College of Technology, which drew about 1,000 registrants. Huawei’s Senior Human Resources Manager, Juliet Emeronye, said all attendees were interviewed by Huawei’s technical team, with top-performing candidates shortlisted for recruitment consideration.
Huawei said the 2025 job fairs and ICT competition are designed to prepare Nigerian students and graduates for global opportunities while directly connecting them with employers in the ICT industry.
