A group advocating good governance in Oyo State, the Concerned Youths Movement (CYM), has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate members of the Oyo State House of Assembly over the approval of a N300 billion loan for Governor Seyi Makinde.

The call follows reports last week that the Assembly had granted approval for the loan, a decision which has since sparked controversy across the state.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Pastor Tayo Adigun, and Secretary, Alhaji Olaide Kobomoje, CYM alleged that the approval was illegal because only 13 out of the 32 lawmakers were present during the process, which does not constitute a quorum.

“We are hereby calling the attention of the EFCC to investigate the alleged approval given to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to obtain N300 billion by the 13 members of the State House of Assembly. That is illegal. Thirteen members do not form a quorum in a 32-member House. This illegality must not be allowed to stand,” the group said.

The group insisted that the action undermines the legislative process and does not reflect the will of the majority in the Assembly, calling on the EFCC to beam its searchlight on the matter.
