The Labour Party (LP) has declared that former presidential candidate Peter Obi will not fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on  Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, insisted that the LP would move forward without Obi, stressing that the gains recorded in 2023 were not primarily his doing.

“We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi; he will not have our ticket,” Arabambi stated. He argued that the surge of support for the LP in the last election was largely fueled by the #EndSARS movement and widespread public anger against the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Arabambi also accused LP’s Acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, and activist Aisha Yesufu of aligning with Obi, vowing the party would act against them. He further challenged Obi to formally announce his exit, claiming the former Anambra Governor was straddling the Labour Party, the PDP, and the ADC.

The LP spokesman dismissed Obi’s earlier explanation that he directed voters to back ADC candidates during the August by-elections because the LP fielded no candidates, calling the move “anti-party” and false.

Arabambi maintained that Obi merely “took advantage of Nigerians’ frustration” in 2023, using the LP as a platform of convenience.
