The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the country between Thursday, September 11, and Saturday, September 13, 2025.

According to NiMet’s Central Forecast Office, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, and Borno states on Thursday. The Central Region, including Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and the FCT, will experience thunderstorms later in the day. In the South, moderate rains are forecast for states such as Osun, Oyo, Enugu, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

On Friday, the agency said thunderstorms would spread across most parts of the North, while central states including Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, and the FCT would also witness moderate rains. In the South, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Cross River are among the states expected to record rainfall.

By Saturday, NiMet forecast moderate to heavy rains across nearly all regions, including Kebbi, Sokoto, the FCT, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Oyo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

NiMet also issued an advisory, cautioning motorists against driving during heavy rains, urging farmers to avoid applying fertilizer before rainfall, and advising residents to secure loose objects, disconnect appliances, and stay away from tall trees. Airline operators were asked to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe planning.
