Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has relieved all commissioners and other public office holders in his administration, following a recent Supreme Court judgment affecting their appointments. The decision takes immediate effect, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

Governor Fubara used a valedictory session with his cabinet during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary at Government House, Port Harcourt, to express gratitude for their contributions over the past two years. “The governor highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s Independence and called on all Nigerians to work together with Mr. President to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous country,” the statement read.

Fubara also reaffirmed his commitment to serve Rivers State with renewed vigor, thanking residents for their support and wishing Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.

The fate of Fubara’s appointees had been uncertain since the emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu, during which the immediate past administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and parastatal heads. The Rivers State House of Assembly had previously called on the governor to submit a fresh list of commissioner nominees for screening and the 2025 budget for passage.
