The Adamawa State Government has commenced the distribution of thousands of bags of parboiled rice to vulnerable and less privileged households across the state’s 21 local government areas ahead of the 2026 Christmas celebration.

The exercise was flagged off on Tuesday in Yola by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji, who said the 50kg bags of rice were procured by the local government councils to support residents during the festive season.

According to him, a total of 42 trucks conveying the rice have been deployed, with each local government receiving two trucks containing 1,200 bags for distribution to identified beneficiaries, particularly at the grassroots.

Yayaji described the initiative as a collective gesture by council chairmen aimed at cushioning economic hardship, while reaffirming the commitment of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration to inclusive governance and welfare support.

The State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Hon. Suleiman Ahmed Gangkuba, said the distribution aligns with the administration’s drive to take governance and relief directly to communities and complement state-level efforts.

The flag-off featured visits to selected distribution centres in Yola by the commissioner and some council chairmen to monitor the commencement of the exercise.
