The Federal Government on Thursday launched the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) Automated Payment Solution for inbound international delivery items, a move expected to streamline customs payments and enhance transparency in parcel delivery nationwide.
The launch in Abuja marked a major milestone in NIPOST’s digital transformation, driven by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who said the initiative reflects “a new model of modern public service built on partnership and innovation.”
Represented by Permanent Secretary Rafiu Adeladan, Tijani said the collaboration between NIPOST and its private-sector partners Paystack, Sendbox, and Messenger demonstrates what is possible when public agencies embrace digital tools and citizen-focused solutions.
“Technology is not just about efficiency; it’s about dignity. When we make life simple for citizens, we restore their faith in government,” Tijani said.
Postmaster General Tola Odeyemi described the innovation as “a new chapter” in NIPOST’s history, noting that users can now receive digital customs notifications, make instant online payments, and have parcels delivered to their homes.
She said the platform ensures real-time revenue remittance to government coffers while reducing parcel clearance time by up to five days.
The system integrates Paystack for payments, Sendbox for tracking, and Messenger for last-mile delivery, making it a complete digital ecosystem for cross-border logistics.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Digital Economy Agenda, which aims to build efficient, transparent, and technology-driven public institutions.
