The Federal Government has honoured three outstanding civil servants with SUVs and a two-bedroom flat at the 2025 Civil Service Awards held in Abuja on Saturday.
Mrs. Hadiza Bahijjatu of the Ministry of Environment received an SUV, while Mr. Chukwudi Ekwenugo of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy got an SUV and ₦500,000. Mr. Oluwabamidele Kogbe of the Ministry of Housing was awarded a two-bedroom apartment.
Fifteen others received laptops, plaques, and cash prizes for exemplary service.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Sen. George Akume, praised civil servants as the backbone of governance. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to reform, improved welfare, and accountability.
“Performance must no longer be optional,” Tinubu said, urging agencies to reward integrity and sanction misconduct.
Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, called the recipients “quiet reformers” and praised their consistency and impact.
“This is not about rank but service,” she said, stressing the need for punctuality and regular attendance.
She also highlighted the first International Civil Service Conference (ICSC) hosted during the 2025 Civil Service Week, describing it as a milestone for Nigeria’s public service.
Walson-Jack urged agencies to participate in future awards, noting that many failed to submit qualified nominees.
Mrs Bahijjatu thanked the organizers and called for broader recognition of diligent workers behind the scenes.
