Adamawa State marked a historic milestone with the official installation of Alhaji Ahmadu Saibaru as the first Emir of the newly created Maiha Emirate and Barrister Alheri Bulus Nyako as the first Tol Hoba of Hoba Chiefdom.

The two-day event, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, underscored the government’s commitment to revitalizing traditional institutions and fostering regional development.

The coronation of Alhaji Ahmadu Saibaru as the Emir of Maiha on February 13, 2025, drew dignitaries from across Nigeria and neighboring Cameroon.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fintiri emphasized the significance of the newly established Maiha Emirate, describing it as a step toward modernizing traditional governance while preserving cultural heritage.

“This momentous occasion is a testament to our dedication to strengthening local governance and celebrating our diverse cultural traditions,” he said. “By empowering traditional rulers, we aim to reinforce social cohesion, enhance security, and stimulate economic development across the state.”

The governor highlighted Maiha’s economic potential, citing its renowned ‘Bullam’ dress, agricultural prowess, and strategic trade position near Mubi and Cameroon.

He urged the new emir to lead with fairness and inclusivity, ensuring that the emirate thrives as a hub for commerce and cultural integration.

The celebrations continued on February 14, 2025, with the coronation of Barrister Alheri Bulus Nyako as the first Tol Hoba and ruler of the newly created Hoba Chiefdom in Hong Local Government. Governor Fintiri acknowledged the historical significance of this event, noting that the Hoba kingdom, which once held prominence in pre-colonial Nigeria, had long been relegated to district status due to colonial restructuring.

“Today, history is being rewritten, and the Hoba Chiefdom has been officially recognized,” the governor declared. He praised the resilience of the Hoba people, who had fought for decades to regain their autonomy. “For over a century, you have kept faith with this struggle, and today, your persistence has borne fruit.”

Governor Fintiri reiterated the administration’s broader vision of empowering traditional institutions to promote unity, conflict resolution, and grassroots governance. He also recognized Hong’s potential as an emerging center for education, sports, and economic development.

“With this coronation taking place on a brand-new sporting facility, I urge you to make sports a part of your legacy, just as education has always been,” he said.

The installations of the Emir of Maiha and Tol Hoba mark a new chapter in Adamawa State’s governance, reinforcing the integration of traditional rulers into the political and socio-economic framework. Governor Fintiri concluded by urging both leaders to uphold justice, foster unity, and work towards regional prosperity.

With these historic events, Adamawa State sets a precedent for inclusive governance, strengthening its traditional institutions while paving the way for sustainable development and peace.
