The Kano State Police Command has announced a total ban on the use of fireworks and knockouts, popularly known as bangers, as part of heightened security measures for the 2026 New Year celebrations.

The directive was issued in a statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, following a security meeting chaired by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

According to the command, the ban is aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing panic during the festive period.

The police said adequate security arrangements have been deployed across the state, with increased patrols, strengthened traffic control, and enhanced intelligence gathering at recreational centres and other public locations.

CP Bakori commended officers for effective security coverage during the Christmas period and directed operational commanders to intensify patrols, visibility policing, and intelligence led operations.

Residents were advised to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious movements or objects. The command also warned against unauthorized horse riding, underage driving, speeding, and reckless driving during the celebrations.

The Kano State Police Command wished residents a peaceful New Year and assured them of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
