Over 1,200 individuals formerly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) have officially joined the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), marking a significant political development in Kano South Senatorial District.

The new party loyalists, who hail from Albasu and Sumaila Local Government Areas, were previously affiliated with the Waraka political group led by Senator Kawu Sumaila. Their defection was formally announced during a political meeting held on Sunday, which drew high-ranking figures from the NNPP.

The National Leader of the NNPP and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who was present at the event, described the move as a reaffirmation of the party’s people-driven ideology. He reiterated the NNPP’s commitment to value-based engagement over politics driven by financial inducement.

“I’m always glad to embrace individuals who believe in our collective mission—not because of any material promises, but because of our dedication to national progress through issue-based politics,” he said.

Representing the returning members, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo expressed full confidence in Kwankwaso’s style of leadership. They cited his track record of consistency, moral uprightness, and attention to local development as key reasons for their decision.

“We’ve come to understand that our political aspirations align better with this movement,” said Zamba, speaking on behalf of the group.

The defection is viewed as a strategic boost for the NNPP, as the party continues to expand its influence in key regions ahead of future electoral contests.
