Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday presented a ₦891.99 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, setting out an ambitious economic plan he described as a bold step toward global market integration and long-term growth.

Tagged the “Budget of Economic Expansion,” the proposal allocates ₦502.8 billion (56.7%) to capital projects and ₦389.1 billion (43.3%) to recurrent spending.

Infrastructure receives the highest allocation at ₦210.02 billion, followed by education with ₦155.2 billion (17.4%). The health sector is earmarked ₦70.8 billion (7.94%), while agriculture gets ₦19.9 billion (2.24%).

Makinde outlined several signature projects expected to accelerate Oyo’s economic repositioning: AfCFTA-driven programmes, the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, Special Agricultural Zones, logistics and dry ports, upgrades to the Ladoke Akintola Airport, and the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road that links critical commercial routes.

The governor also noted that Oyo State will mark its 50th anniversary in February 2026 under the theme “Renewal: A celebration of where we have come from and where we are going,” stressing that the people of Oyo remain the state’s most valuable asset.
