Ogun State is poised to become a major hub for the textile industry as Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun has revealed plans for the establishment of the biggest cotton and apparel industry in West Africa. The groundbreaking ceremony for this landmark project, which is expected to create up to 40,000 jobs, will be held soon at the state’s Special Agro-Processing Zone.

Governor Abiodun made this announcement while receiving the Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Senator Owan Enoh, and his team in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Thursday. He highlighted the state’s strategic planning, noting that the Special Agro-Processing Zone has been co-located with the Ogun State Agro-Cargo & Passenger Airport.

“We call the entire place an aerotropolis, where we have the airport, the Special Agro-Processing Zone, and the new and biggest customs facilities in Nigeria. This integration is designed to boost trade, investment, and industrial growth,” Governor Abiodun stated.

Senator Owan Enoh, who was in the state on an “industry push,” commended Ogun State’s industrial-friendly policies and its role as Nigeria’s key industrial hub.

“Ogun State represents Nigeria as the main belt of her industrial base in terms of industrial activities. I thank you for encouraging the growth of industries,” the minister remarked, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to partnering with state governments to drive economic expansion.

This mega textile industry is expected to bolster job creation, enhance the local economy, and position Ogun State as a pivotal player in Nigeria’s industrial and trade landscape.
