The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have edged out defending champions Senegal in a high-stakes penalty shootout to seal their place in the semifinals of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and clinch a spot at the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup.

The match, played in Egypt, lived up to expectations as both teams showcased immense tactical discipline and raw talent. Despite several chances created during regulation and extra time, neither side could find the breakthrough, sending the game into a dramatic shootout.

Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt emerged as the match hero, pulling off key saves that kept Nigeria’s hopes alive. The young Eagles remained composed under pressure, converting their penalties with clinical precision.

The victory means Nigeria not only moves one step closer to continental glory but also confirms their participation on the global stage at the 2025 U20 FIFA World Cup. The Flying Eagles—six-time U20 AFCON champions—will now shift their focus to their upcoming semifinal clash as they aim to bring the trophy back home.

This resilient performance once again underscores Nigeria’s pedigree in youth football and rekindles hope for a new generation of footballing stars.
