Nigerian soldiers and armed bandits were killed on Tuesday during coordinated attacks on military forward operating bases in Kaduna and Niger States, the Nigerian Army has confirmed.

The attacks occurred simultaneously in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka (Niger State), and Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Army described the incident as a three-pronged assault by armed bandits on the affected bases. In response, land and air components of the military launched counter-offensives, killing multiple bandits.

However, the Army also reported that some of its personnel were killed, while four soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment.

In a statement posted Wednesday on its official X handle, the Army said:

“Sadly, some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles, while four wounded in action troops are currently receiving treatment for their gunshot wounds.”

The incident marks one of the most serious recent confrontations between troops and criminal elements in Nigeria’s troubled Northwest and North-Central regions, where insecurity remains a major challenge.
