President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to delivering stable and uninterrupted electricity across Nigeria before the end of his administration, the Federal Government has assured.

Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, gave this reassurance during the commissioning of the 1X15 MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos on Saturday.

He said the project will boost power supply to communities including Abaranje, Igando Road, Okerube, and others, enhancing local businesses, creating jobs, and reducing outages.

“The Tinubu-led government views energy as the backbone of national growth. That’s why we are pushing reforms that improve generation, transmission, and distribution,” Adelabu stated.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria has attracted over $2 billion in new energy investments, improved daily energy supply records, and increased sector revenue by 70% in 2024.

He noted progress such as the Electricity Act 2023, which enabled 12 state electricity markets, and efforts to stabilize the grid through the Siemens Project, which added 700 MW in capacity.

Funding has also been secured: ₦700 billion from FAAC for metering and $500 million from the World Bank DISREP, aimed at adding 3.45 million new meters.

Despite these gains, Adelabu admitted that challenges persist in the distribution sector, including energy losses and service complaints. He pledged to work closely with DisCos to resolve them.

He commended Ikeja Electric for completing the substation within 12 months, describing the company as one of Nigeria’s best-performing DisCos.
