President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been honored with Saint Lucia’s highest national award, the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL), during his official visit to the Caribbean nation aimed at strengthening diplomatic and development relations.

The government of Saint Lucia made the announcement via an official statement, saying the award was conferred by the Governor General in recognition of Tinubu’s leadership and his efforts to deepen Africa-Caribbean ties.

“The Government of Saint Lucia is pleased to announce that the Governor General has conferred the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) upon H. E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

Tinubu’s visit to Saint Lucia marks the beginning of a two-nation diplomatic tour across the Caribbean and South America. In an address to a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly, Tinubu emphasized the need to bridge the gap between Africa and the Caribbean through expanded trade, education, cultural exchange, and diplomatic cooperation.

“Nigeria and Saint Lucia are bound by history, culture, and shared aspirations,” Tinubu said. “Our goal is to build lasting partnerships for prosperity, sustainable development, and people-to-people engagement.”

As part of the evolving relationship, both countries have announced plans to formalize diplomatic relations. Key initiatives include a visa waiver arrangement for holders of diplomatic and official passports from OECS member states, scholarships for Caribbean students, and the expansion of Nigeria’s Technical Aid Corps (TAC) to the Eastern Caribbean.

The diplomatic breakthrough underscores a growing push for South-South cooperation, with Nigeria positioning itself as a leading African partner for the Caribbean region.
