The Nigerian military has apprehended two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Borno State for allegedly aiding terrorist operations by transporting arms and military gear.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, made the disclosure on Thursday during a press briefing in Abuja. He said the suspects  Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed were caught in Liya, Biu Local Government Area, following intelligence that led troops to a waybill delivery from a truck driver.

Among the seized items were 13 sets of military uniforms and high-voltage batteries.

In a separate operation, security forces arrested Shaibu Bulama, 65, in Damasak Motor Park, Yobe State, for supplying logistics to insurgents. Troops also recovered arms, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and ₦17,150 during the sweep.

Kangye added that 16 relatives of insurgents — four women and 12 children — surrendered to troops in Bama on July 14, reportedly fleeing from Bakura Jega village.

In the South East, military personnel also detained a suspected levy collector for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network. The individual was arrested in Ihiala LGA, Anambra State, with ₦1.5 million in cash allegedly collected from residents.
