
In a landmark initiative to honor centuries of tradition, the Lamido of Adamawa, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, has officially inaugurated a 19-member steering committee to spearhead a grand celebration of the Fombina Royal Dynasty’s rich legacy.
The historic event, held on Saturday at the Council Chamber of the Lamido’s Palace in Yola, underscores the vital role of traditional institutions in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Lamido reaffirmed the dynasty’s immense contributions to Nigeria’s history, governance, and development since its establishment in 1809.
The celebration, championed by the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria in collaboration with the Adamawa Emirate Council, is part of a broader effort to safeguard and promote Northern Nigeria’s heritage.

Chairing the committee is His Royal Highness Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, who expressed deep appreciation for the Lamido’s support and pledged to orchestrate a momentous series of events.
Among the highlights of the planned activities are:
- A book launch detailing the history and impact of the Fombina Dynasty
- The Lamido’s Crystal Jubilee Celebration
- A seminar exploring 19th-century scholarly works
- A museum and cultural exhibition
- A special Fada (Friday homage) and Jumu’a (Friday prayer)
- A horse race competition (Kilisa) and other traditional showcases
