President Bola Tinubu on Thursday decorated the newly appointed Service Chiefs with their ranks, charging them to act decisively against emerging security threats across the country. The ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja, marked what the President described as a “renewed effort” to guarantee national peace and security.

The new military chiefs include General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff; Air Marshal Kevin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff; Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff; and Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Addressing the officers after their decoration, Tinubu emphasized that Nigerians expect tangible results, not excuses. “Security threats are constantly evolving. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” he said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing the armed forces with the resources needed to protect lives and property. “Security is the foundation upon which development rests. Our people must be safe to enjoy the benefits of governance,” Tinubu noted.

On behalf of the newly decorated officers, General Oluyede pledged the Armed Forces’ total loyalty to the President and commitment to ridding the country of criminality. “We will do our utmost to ensure Nigeria becomes safer and conducive for economic and social activities to thrive,” he said.

The Service Chiefs’ appointments, confirmed by the Senate, are part of the administration’s broader strategy to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and restore public confidence in the military’s ability to protect the country.
