The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), with support from NHF/UNOCHA, has commenced insurance training for community volunteers under its Anticipatory Action (AA) Project in Adamawa State.
More than 20 community volunteers drawn from the seven Local Government Areas where the project is being implemented are participating in the training.
The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of community volunteers to better prepare vulnerable communities for disasters and take timely action before hazards escalate into emergencies.
The Anticipatory Action approach focuses on preparing communities ahead of disasters by using available information and early warning signals to trigger actions that can reduce potential impacts.
The training is expected to improve participants’ understanding of insurance-related issues within the Anticipatory Action framework and strengthen their ability to support vulnerable people in their respective communities.
The programme forms part of the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s broader efforts to build community-level preparedness and resilience in disaster-prone areas of Adamawa State. With volunteers serving at the community level, the training is expected to help strengthen the link between humanitarian interventions and people who may be most affected by disasters.
