Suspected bandits launched deadly attacks in Eruku, a border community in Kwara State, killing two people and injuring one, the state police command confirmed on Tuesday.

A parish of the Christ Apostolic Church was attacked during an evening service, where a worshipper identified as Mr Aderemi was shot dead. Another victim, Mr Tunde Asaba Ajayi, was later found in the bush, while a vigilante, Segun Alaja, sustained gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said operatives and local vigilantes responded quickly, forcing the attackers to retreat. Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo assured residents that efforts to track down the criminals were ongoing.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen also abducted the pastor and several worshippers before launching a second attack along the Ilorin–Kabba Road, causing travellers to flee into nearby bushes.

Residents say Eruku has suffered repeated assaults in recent weeks and are calling for urgent government intervention as insecurity worsens along Kwara’s border communities.
