The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed more than 55,000 operatives across the country to enhance security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The nationwide deployment was ordered by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as protect lives and property before, during and after the yuletide period.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, the operation is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, as criminal elements often exploit festive periods to carry out unlawful activities.

Audi said security threats such as banditry, kidnapping, farmer herder clashes, terrorism and insurgency could be effectively tackled with timely and credible intelligence from members of the public. He urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies to enable proactive crime prevention.

The statement noted that all zonal commanders have been directed to closely supervise formations within their jurisdictions, while state commandants are to coordinate area commands, divisions and units to ensure full coverage.

The deployment includes both covert and overt operations, with full mobilization of personnel to guarantee maximum protection of citizens and critical assets nationwide.

Reaffirming the corps’ commitment to public safety, Audi said the NSCDC would continue to work closely with sister security agencies to ensure peace and security throughout the festive season.
