The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has distributed more than 600 bags of rice to its members under its annual Christmas welfare programme aimed at easing economic hardship and promoting unity among journalists.

The distribution, which took place in Abuja, marks the second consecutive year the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of the NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike.

Addressing members, Ike said the programme reflects the council’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of journalists, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges. She described the initiative as a responsibility rather than a seasonal gesture, noting that it has now become a tradition following its positive impact last year.

She added that the intervention recognizes journalists as key contributors to democratic governance and public accountability in the FCT.

Earlier, the NUJ FCT Executive Council held an end-of-year interactive session with chapel leaders, during which members were briefed on ongoing projects, including the remodeling of the NUJ Congress Hall.

At the meeting, members passed a vote of confidence in the council’s leadership, commending it for focused and results-driven administration.

Comrade Ike urged journalists to remain united and supportive of one another while appreciating sponsors, partners and executive members for supporting the welfare initiative.
