Balarabe Rufa’i, the National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been appointed Director of Youth Mobilisation in the party’s Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.
Rufa’i announced the appointment in a statement on Thursday, September 24, 2026, expressing appreciation to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, the party’s vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi and the party leadership for the confidence placed in him.
The appointment comes as the ADC formally constitutes its presidential campaign structure ahead of the 2027 election. Reports on the campaign council list Rufa’i among those assigned responsibilities within the campaign’s Contact and Mobilisation directorate.
Rufa’i said his new role was not merely ceremonial but an assignment to organise, listen to and mobilise young Nigerians across communities.
“This appointment is not a decoration. It is an assignment to organise, listen to and mobilise Nigerian youths across our communities for the political contest ahead,” he said.
He outlined a broad mobilisation strategy targeting young Nigerians in different social and economic spaces, including campuses, markets, farms, workshops and digital platforms.
According to him, the campaign would focus on reaching young people where they live and work while building an organised youth network ahead of the election.
Rufa’i also framed the task as one requiring organisation and discipline, saying the campaign would seek to build a youth mobilisation structure capable of increasing young Nigerians’ participation in the electoral process.
The ADC campaign council, announced on Thursday, is headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
The Contact and Mobilisation directorate includes other political figures with responsibilities covering areas such as mandate protection and women mobilisation, with Rufa’i assigned responsibility for youth mobilisation.
In his statement, Rufa’i also criticised the incumbent political structure and used the hashtag #TinubuMustGo to state the campaign’s opposition message.
He concluded by signalling the beginning of the mobilisation effort, writing: “The journey begins. The work begins.”
Rufa’i’s appointment places the ADC National Youth Leader at the centre of the party’s effort to engage young Nigerians as the 2027 presidential election approaches.
