In a dramatic UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg match on March 5, 2025, Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Parc des Princes. Despite PSG’s dominance throughout the game, a late goal from Liverpool’s substitute Harvey Elliott proved decisive.

PSG, under the guidance of coach Luis Enrique, controlled much of the match, registering 28 attempts on goal and maintaining 70% possession. However, they were repeatedly thwarted by Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, who delivered a stellar performance with nine crucial saves. Enrique praised his team’s superiority but acknowledged Alisson’s impact, stating, “The match was lost because Alisson made five incredible saves.”

The game’s only goal came in the 87th minute when Elliott, introduced just 47 seconds earlier, capitalized on a pass from Darwin Nunez to score with Liverpool’s first shot on target.

Reflecting on the outcome, Enrique expressed his frustration over the result, labeling it as “very unfair” and emphasizing that PSG played “possibly their most complete match in the competition.” He remained optimistic about the return leg at Anfield, expressing full confidence in his team’s ability to overturn the deficit.

The second leg is scheduled for next week at Anfield, where PSG will aim to capitalize on their strong performance and secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
