The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq, has dethroned Iliya Mantau, the Village Head of Mantau in Yarmaulu, Baure Local Government Area, following serious allegations of kidnapping and rape involving a woman in the community.

The action comes after months of public outrage and a recent youth-led protest in Yarmaulu, where locals accused the village head and others of abducting a woman, Zulaihatu, and her child, collecting a ₦20 million ransom, and allegedly raping the woman.

The Emir announced the decision on Monday, citing the Emirate’s zero tolerance for abuse of power and injustice.

“This Emirate will never condone the abuse of anyone,” the Emir stated. “Even if it is my own child who is responsible, justice must prevail.”

He cited historical examples, including the imprisonment of a royal family member, to demonstrate the Emirate’s commitment to justice.

The Emir further stated that Mantau ceases to be the village head effective immediately, and a new leader will be appointed soon to uphold justice and integrity in local governance.

He also warned the public against spreading false information, encouraging citizens to follow legal channels when reporting grievances.

“The Emirate is open to everyone. Anyone who feels wronged should bring their complaints directly,” he added.
