Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the acquisition of Mamadou Sarr from French top-flight outfit RC Strasbourg, with the promising young defender agreeing to a contract that extends through 2033.
The 19-year-old French centre-back enjoyed a breakout season in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 campaign, making 28 appearances across competitions and playing a crucial part in Strasbourg’s qualification for European football. His contributions were pivotal in the club’s push to secure a UEFA Conference League play-off berth, with 27 of his appearances coming as a starter in the league.
Sarr’s reputation was already well established in youth football, having begun his development at RC Lens before moving to Olympique Lyonnais, where he progressed through the ranks and made his first-team debut in the penultimate round of the 2022/23 season. He featured twice more the following term before heading out on a five-month loan to Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.
His rapid growth continued after his transfer to Strasbourg in August 2024, where he quickly earned a place in the starting XI. One of his standout performances came in a key victory against Paris Saint-Germain, where his pressure contributed to an own goal.
On the international stage, Sarr has worn the French jersey at several youth levels and most recently featured for the Under-20 national team.
Chelsea hailed the signing as a move that reinforces the club’s long-term defensive prospects.
