The scheduled 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into uncertainty following mixed signals from party organs, even as the National Working Committee (NWC) insists the meeting remains postponed for statutory reasons.

Following its 601st meeting on Sunday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the NWC led by Acting National Chairman Illiya Damagum and attended by 9 of 16 members reaffirmed that the NEC meeting was postponed, not cancelled, and not in defiance of the 99th NEC’s decisions.

In a press release, Damagum emphasized that an expanded National Caucus meeting will be held on Monday, June 30, at 2 p.m., in the NEC Hall. Invitations are being extended to broader stakeholders for deliberations on internal matters.

Among the key resolutions, the NWC upheld Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s position as National Secretary, aligning with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recommendations, and reasserted the constitutional roles of both the National Chairman and Secretary in convening NEC meetings.

Quoting Sections 35 and 36 of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), Damagum highlighted the procedural importance of issuing statutory notices for meetings.

Calling for unity, he appealed to party members to “allow the PDP to survive, stabilize, rescue and rebuild Nigeria,” urging the public to disregard conflicting reports circulating in the media.
