The Nigerian women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, on Tuesday night secured their place in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a thrilling 2-1 win over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

The victory was hard-fought, as the semi-final encounter at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca tested the mettle of both African giants. Goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Toni Payne gave the Falcons a deserved lead, while South Africa clawed one back late in the second half.

Following the intense match, the Super Falcons shared a video on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, showing jubilant scenes from the dressing room. The players were captured singing and dancing to celebratory tunes, visibly thrilled by the outcome of the match.

The win sets up Nigeria for a record-extending 12th WAFCON title as they await the winner of the second semifinal between Morocco and Cameroon.

Tuesday’s game also marked a moment of redemption for the Falcons, who were eliminated by South Africa in the 2022 edition of the tournament. With this victory, Nigeria not only reclaimed regional pride but also demonstrated their intent to dominate the continental stage once more.

“Proud of the girls! Hard work paid off. Now, one more to go,” a team official said after the match.
