In preparation for the 2025 Anambra State off-cycle governorship election, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is holding a quarterly consultative meeting with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting is focused on security arrangements and general preparations for the Anambra governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025. Also on the agenda are discussions concerning the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections, slated for Saturday, February 21, 2026, as well as updates on pending bye-elections across the country.

With the Anambra election drawing closer, INEC is intensifying efforts to ensure a credible, peaceful, and transparent electoral process. Security agencies, in collaboration with the electoral body, are expected to strategize on measures to safeguard election materials, voters, and stakeholders throughout the process.

The meeting reaffirms INEC’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections while addressing security challenges that may arise before, during, and after the polls. Further updates from the commission are anticipated as the electoral timetable progresses.
