The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of election monitoring, AIG Taiwo Adeleke, has arrived in Yola ahead of Saturday’s by-election in the Ganye State Constituency of Adamawa State. Adeleke cautioned officers and men of the police against engaging in brutality during and after the exercise, directing them to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
In a statement on Thursday, the spokesman for the Adamawa Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroji, said the directive followed an order by the Inspector-General of Police to ensure a peaceful and credible poll. He disclosed that Adeleke, accompanied by CP Moses Ottah and ACP Husseini Yelwa, met with officers to review operational strategies for a smooth and hitch-free election.
The AIG urged all personnel to be professional, impartial, and civil in dealing with the public, stressing that the police’s constitutional mandate was to provide security before, during, and after the election. Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, briefed Adeleke on the Command’s readiness, including deployment plans and proactive measures to safeguard voters, electoral officials, and materials.
The Police Command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property while calling on the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and report any suspicious activities. The Ganye by-election is taking place more than a year after the death of the constituency’s representative, Hon. Abdulmalik Jauro, in May 2024, a seat that has remained vacant since.
